4 weeks post marathon. 10 weeks until next race, coming off IT band pain

Training plans

I finished my first marathon about 4 weeks ago and originally planned to take one week off before starting a 13 week build. When I tried to start back with a tempo run (planned 6 miles), I had to stop at 5 due to IT band pain and could barely walk the next day. That was about 3 weeks ago, and since then I’ve backed off to let it fully calm down. Monday will mark 10 weeks until the next marathon I’m targeting. Knock on wood were solid with no pain after an easy intro run this coming Monday.

Last cycle I peaked around 55 miles per week, and this time I was hoping to push that closer to 61–65. My main goal isn’t just to run faster, but to avoid the blow-up I had around mile 18–20 in my last race. Given the recent IT band flare and the shorter timeline, would you still try to build toward that mileage or focus more on staying healthy and consistent over the next 10 weeks? Is 10 weeks enough time to realistically expect a better time?
