New to Tyranids and would like some advice

New Player Question

I’ve picked up some Tyranids and would like some advice on building a 2000 point list for my son. I play Space Marines and I’m planning on building an Astra Militarum army. I’d like to take what I have and build something for him that will be relatively competitive and fun.

I personally like themed armies but I’d like for him to be able to take the list to a tournament and have a good time as well as have fun narratively. If that means buying 1000 more points of models over the next few months that’s fine I’ve got to get these things painted after all!

1x Parasite of Mortrex (80 pts): Barbed ovipositor, Clawed limbs

1x Winged Tyranid Prime (65 pts): Prime talons

20x Termagants (120 pts): 20 with Chitinous claws and teeth, Fleshborer

5x Barbgaunts (55 pts): 5 with Barblauncher, Chitinous claws and teeth

1x Psychophage (110 pts): Psychoclastic torrent, Talons and betentacled maw

1x Ripper Swarms (25 pts): Chitinous claws and teeth

1x Screamer-killer (125 pts): Bio-plasmic scream, Screamer-killer talons

3x Von Ryan's Leapers (70 pts): 3 with Leaper's talons
