What Do You Think About The Way Early Mothering Occurs in Sailor Moon?
People have often pointed out that it is common for girls to take on a mothering role at an early point before they really should, especially disproportionately compared to boys. One of the things I do like about SM is that while Usagi is aware that she will have a daughter, this time it literally is her kid not her parents', she at least can still take her time in adapting to this. Her family treats her as if Ikuko and Kenji are her parents and the two of them think she is (or cousin I guess depending on which version you saw) and they will address issues that a parent needs to do for Chibiusa, and Usagi's taskload is pretty much the same in her home regardless of that fact.
And when it comes to Hotaru being adopted by Setsuna, Haruka, and Michiru, that was their idea to do, and they are rich enough that they don't have much strain in dealing with it all. If they needed daycare for her they could have gotten it, and by aging up rapidly, the trio can spend their time doing what they should be doing with their youthful times about as close to normal as one should do.
I doubt any of this was written intentionally as part of some commentary about the way girls are often treated differently than boys in this regard, but it does do it a lot better than many even without some manifesto.
