What’s a good deal for Flagship Business upgrade?

We’re flying DFW-AKL in a few weeks, and we originally bought main tickets. I was randomly checking and saw an upgrade to Flagship Business for $1000/person and grabbed it. They even had preferred seats still available! I’m assuming it’s a good deal but wondering what other peoples experience has been. What’s the usual price for an upgrade or what are peoples “great deals”?
