Thank God FOR Trusting Us to Handle Suffering

I once saw a program in which a woman was held captive & assaulted. During her captivity, she prayed that God would bring someone to rescue her. When she wasn't rescued, she asked God why. She says she heard God tell her to thank Him for trusting her to endure the suffering. Thoughts? Should we THANK God for trusting us to suffer?
