RE9 theory so far fetch'd it might be true.
So I beat RE9, and am watching someone else's playthrough. This person found a note I initially also found but didn't think much of... but now re-reading it something clicked that not only could make sense, it might also fix a common complaint with the game's story.
Heads-up, this'll be a LONG read.
!Okay so. The note in question is "Spencer's Research II". I'll post the full note fist, then I'll be quoting the relevant parts.!<
!Full note:!<
!"Humanity suffers when the drive and experience!<
!of our most exceptional leaders is lost.!<
!The ultimate way to preserve such greatness!<
!is to transfer those memories to a new vessel.!<
!Just as fruit flies have the potential to pass!<
!on certain memories to their offspring through!<
!their genes, so too can the memories of!<
!a human donor be passed on to a recipient!<
!The question we now face is how to harness!<
!this incredible potential.!<
!The answer lies in the medium of memory-blood.!<
!Cells within the blood contain multitudes of!<
!information, including factors tied to memory.!<
!Thus, since the T-Virus grants us control!<
!over factors within the blood, it can be!<
!hypothesized that harnessing those same!<
!elements will allow us to transfer memories!<
!from superior individuals.!<
!However, for such a procedure to succeed,!<
!the host must be able to withstand the toxicity!<
!of the mutated T-Virus strain while preserving!<
!their own intelligence. Sourcing viable subjects!<
!will be the key to future research and testing."!<
!So what is 1 common complaint people have with the story? Spencer himself. His "sudden remorseful nature" and his "sudden will of atonement". Many people say "oh he just suddenly felt bad, so adopted a random girl, and then right before his death he claims he was supposed to be a god?" This sudden switch makes no sense. Well, I am here to tell you... "which sudden switch?"!<
!See, Spencer never made a switch. What Spencer DID do, was lie. First of all, he told Alyssa that Grace was "just a normal child", which is a blatant lie. After Zeno shows Grace the footage of one of the clone kids escaping, Grace gets flashbacks of events in her life... AND what the girl went through. Here's the thing: she sees what the girl went through in first person. She saw in her flashback exactly what the girl saw. If we look at Spencer's notes, there's a clear theme. "Just as fruit flies have the potential to pass!<
!on certain memories to their offspring through!<
!their genes, so too can the memories of!<
!a human donor be passed on to a recipient" tranferral of memory. The fact that Grace remembered what that girl went through through her own eyes, indicates she remembers the memories of the girl. Thus we can conclude that Spencer lied when he told Alyssa that Grace is "just a normal child".!<
!Now that we have concluded that Spencer was bullshitting Alyssa. The next question that arises is "why?". Well, what was Spencer's plan? "Humanity suffers when the drive and experience of our most exceptional leaders is lost.!<
!The ultimate way to preserve such greatness!<
!is to transfer those memories to a new vessel." Preservation of memory. How does he want to achieve this? "The answer lies in the medium of memory-blood.!<
!Cells within the blood contain multitudes of!<
!information, including factors tied to memory."!<
!So can we show any evidence of Grace being linked to his goals? Well, yes. We actually can. "However, for such a procedure to succeed,!<
!the host must be able to withstand the toxicity!<
!of the mutated T-Virus strain while preserving!<
!their own intelligence." Well it just so happens... that Grace is immune. During the opening hour, she gets bitten by a T-zombie (and a VERY hefty bite at that) and she doesn't get any issues. It's also very likely that Victor, having read his Master's papers, was searching for a T-virus immune girl and thus did tests on Grace to confirm she is immune. One of his notes did say all tests came back positive, after all.!<
!Everyone seemed convinced that Grace was the key to Spencer's last research. And in a way, she was. Elpis, the 'magical T-virus cure', named after a goddess of hope. Grace, literally being called both Spencer's and Alyssa's hope. It feels very weird for Spencer to suddenly accept only this 1 interview and suddenly talk more about remorse than anything else. Until you realize... it was all part of his plan. His plan being... having his own memory preserved. The key in all this? Grace.!<
!I fully believe Grace is Spencer's hope... His hope of being brought back. I believe Grace literally holds Spencer's memories. Spencer made Elpis, not to "cause anarchy" as Victor claims, nor to "atone" like Grace believes. Elpis is his way back into this world. Elpis is not just a cure, it is possibly Spencer himself. His entire research of "transferring memory through blood" and "needing T-virus resistant people". And what is his 'final work'? A 'medicine to cure T-virus'. The T-virus normally acts too fast for Elpis to take effect, so it's made for those with prolongued effects... those that are resillient. The perfect hosts for blood-transferral as per his memory-transfer research. With at the top of it all: Grace, the most perfect host. And why the interview with Alyssa? To build trust, so he could ensure Grace, who is carrying his memory, could stay safe until the time as right.!<
!Everyone is talking about Wesker coming back because of Zeno who was "just an immitation"... But the real threat we have to worry about is SPENCER HIMSELF RETURNING. Zeno himself claimed Elpis was a method of mind control. I believe his guess to actually be true, just not how he expected it. It's to control Spencer's mind. And possibly, Spencer's blood could push the injected people to, unknowingly ofcourse, bring back Spencer.!<
!Let me know what you all think of this theory, and wether I am crazy or onto something. This theory to me feels like it fits in perfectly and also fixes the supposed writing issues at hand (except Zeno, nothing can fix that disappointment).!<
