Suggestions needed to improve bungalow.
Hi guys, I would love this groups’ suggestions for our little bungalow built in the early 1920’s. The inside has both craftsman and Victorian elements. I would love to make the outside look as charming, warm, and historical as the inside feels but I’m not sure where to start.
Things I want to improve:
- color: I hate the look of dingy cheap white vinyl siding and not a fan of the raw metal finish of the sun porch. I think I would like to see the house in a sage green with cream trim but I’m not sure.
- The front sun porch door is the bane of my existence and needs to be replaced I would love an arched front door the swings inward, maybe in wood or a color that pops?
- The upper attic level feels empty/undone to me somehow. I’ve thought about maybe adding shutters or one of those ornate Victorian triangles, or a stained glass window or even maybe a Tudor look, im not sure where to start (I’m also not a big fan of the lack of roof overhang, but the roof is fairly new so must stay)
- Re: the sun porch - the Jalousie/shutter style windows were put in during the 1940’s and while they are not the best to look at, I have grown to love their functionality and I don’t have the budget to replace each of those right now. I also wonder about adding box trim beneath to the sunporch.
- Re landscaping- I KNOW we need to do something here. It’s basically a blank slate. For reference we live in the northeast. The black pipe that sticks out front and center is the connector to fill our oil tank for heating (and will be removed soon when we finish converting to natural gas).
