Why strict moderation is unfortunately a must

Opinion

I see from time to time criticism here on the sub (and elsewhere) about how this sub is run and what is allowed to appear on it.

As much as I would love to live in a world where rules and their enforcement isn't needed, where everybody is genuinely here to actually contribute to the conversation, and everyone acts amicably all the time - that version of the Internet (especially in anonymous forums) has never existed. We live in a world where social norms can't even keep people in check IRL.

Sure the dividend VS growth drama isn't always peak entertainment but honestly what is there really to say about income investing? I fell like most of my comments boil down to recommending "The Income Factory" to people.

You know what we don't see here on the sub? People promoting their paywalled blog posts, or redundant YouTube channels that regurgitate the same info with fresh new thumbnails every week.

If you don't know what I am taking about, visit a thinly moderated sub and see for yourself https://www.reddit.com/r/BDCs/s/U3UTB3TZuf

Here is a great rule of thumb, if someone needs to monetize giving you advice, you probably shouldn't be taking their advice. You are much better off taking advice from people who actually live the life and have the portfolio you want instead of content creators.

/end rant 🤣
