24M feeling ambitious but confused about career direction – Civil Services, Tech, or continuing my current field?
Hi everyone, I’m a 24-year-old guy trying to figure out the right career path for myself. I consider myself quite ambitious and I genuinely want to build a meaningful and stable career, but right now I feel stuck between a few different directions.
In my secondary schooling, I studied in the non-medical stream (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics). However, due to certain circumstances at that time, I couldn’t continue in that path and eventually pursued a BA with Political Science, Public Administration, and Defence & Strategic Studies.
Now I’m at a stage where I need to decide seriously what to focus on next, and I’m confused between a few options:
1.Preparing for Civil Services exams, since my current subjects somewhat align with it and the idea of public service and administration interests me.
2.Continuing in my graduation field, possibly through higher studies or careers related to policy, administration, or similar areas.
3.Entering the tech field by learning new skills (like programming, data analysis, etc.), even though I don’t have a formal tech degree.
Another important factor is that I currently work part-time for about 4–5 hours a day to support my personal expenses, so I have to realistically manage my time and resources.
I don’t mind putting in the effort and learning new things, but I want to make a well-thought-out decision rather than blindly committing to something that may not work out in the long run.
Some things I’m particularly curious about: Is it realistic to enter the tech field without a tech degree if I’m willing to learn skills seriously?
• Is it wise to invest years into Civil Services preparation, considering the intense competition?
• Are there career paths related to Political Science / Public Administration that offer good growth and stability?
• If anyone here has faced a similar crossroads or has insights about these paths, I’d really appreciate your advice.
Thanks for reading.
