If I take the helpdesk role, can I still be a dev?

Hi, I finished uni 4 months ago with a computer science degree, i've been applying for tons of dev roles for the past 4 months but had a handful of first stage interviews and 2 final stages but never been able to land a job. I'm in the position where I need the money but I don't want to end up getting stuck in helpdesk role rather than a dev role which is my goal.

Will a helpdesk role benefit me in anyway in order to get a dev role in the future? Any advice is greatly appreciated, thank you!
