Concerned about 3 month old sucking thumb

My 3 month old has discovered his hands and soon after started sucking his thumb to soothe himself when he’s sleeping and sometimes during the day as well. I am concerned about it as my younger sister did the same till she was 6 or 7 yo and I don’t want my new born to get used to it and it becomes hard for us later to get him to stop doing it. I read someone saying to put on a sock on your little one’s hand but I don’t want him to have disturbed sleep because he couldn’t self soothe at night. Anyone been through the same and has any recommendations or tips?
