Theory: Ragatha's original role in the circus was being the protagonist before Pomni arrived.
as we all know TADC is literally a TV show in it's own universe due to having it's own theme song and many other things. and it's implied each character is there to fulfill a specific role in the show. Jax is the troublemaker who spices up adventure's by making sure they don't go as planned. Zooble is the grumpy one who's job is to punish jax when they go too far. Gangle is the sad one who gets abused for laughs. Pomni was most likely meant to be comedic relief as she was Kaufmos replacement. and Kinger was probably suppose to be the "lore guy" who'd reveal the secrets of the circus to the viewer overtime (why else would his avatar literally be the most important piece in chess?)
now why do I think Ragatha use to be the protagonist? at the beginning of the series the only character who seems even somewhat reasonable and normal is Ragatha who comes off as a kind and rational person that's being overwhelmed by her circumstances which is already very similiar to Pomni. Ragatha also tries VERY hard to be a leader and someone others can rely on, she also tries to do alot of important things in episodes 1 and 2... but constantly get's outdone by pomni in the end.
-she's the only one to try to comfort pomni and help her come to terms with being in the circus. she fails at this but Pomni ends up doing the same thing with other characters later in the series with varying success (still better then ragatha though).
-She's the one who suggests checking on Kaufmo. kickstarting episode 1's plot. but when kaufmo is found to be abstracted she's completely worthless and pomni is the one who ends up fixing the mess through her actions.
-in episode 2 she actually plays along with the adventure and kinda kickstarts its plot by talking to the princess, Shes also the one who receives the key from them. she tries very hard to lead pomni, but she's not interested at all. however she completely fails to keep Jax in check and he basically takes over the adventure. ultimately Pomni is the one who resolves the issue with gummigoo... but interestingly Ragatha is the one who gives the okay to Gummigoo to go back to the village with the extra syrup truck despite not really doing anything.
after these two episodes ragatha's importance in the adventures wain's HEAVILY with her finally being relegated to being just another side character. that is until episode 7, where she suddenly becomes much more important out of nowhere. this could be a natural progression of her character, but its extremely strange to see her take a prominent role after all this time. Ragatha's behavior in "Caines office" is particularly interesting, unlike the others she barely spends any time gawking at the office, and pretty much beelines towards the door. giving us this shot.
this shot was always strange to me, why the hell would Ragatha be in the front of the pack? they could've written it so pomni opened the door which would've fit much more since she's the protag. so why ragatha? In the thumbnail it's Pomni who's upfront... so why is it like this in the actual episode? she also completely shuts down the conversation about able being a twist villain just moments before despite literally have the same thoughts a few minutes earlier... wait what the fuck? why is Ragatha so insistent on being important this episode? she literally goes with Pomni for no reason. And when pomni asks for the administrator passes she repeats her for some reason, was she trying to steal her thunder? I can't tell if this is on purpose or I'm going insane. Was Ragatha deliberately trying to take the spotlight from Pomni because she knew this was a big climactic episode?
Maybe Pomni was always meant to replace Ragatha as the protagonist. Ragatha is too nice and she's shown time and time again she only knows how to proceed through adventures in a straight line and crumbles under any sort of pressure. and I can't imagine how boring that must get to watch after a while...
