What type of electric guitar should I get for playing Red Hot Chili Peppers–style music?

Hi everyone.

What type of electric guitar should I choose if I want to play songs like those from Red Hot Chili Peppers and similar bands?

I’m planning to buy my first guitar, but I currently have no playing experience. I’m mainly interested in funk rock and alternative rock styles, and I’d like a guitar that can get somewhat close to the sound of those bands.

Any recommendations on guitar types or models that would work well for this style?
