My honest thoughts on the game

SpoilerGeneral

Let me start by saying i have been a huge Resident Evil fan since the beginning. One of my earliest gaming memories is playing Resident Evil 2 back in 1998 with my older brother. Since then the franchise has always been one of my favorites, easily up there with series like Final Fantasy, Dark Souls, Metal Gear, and The Witcher.

I went into Resident Evil Requiem almost completely blind, and honestly the opening hours were fantastic. The atmosphere was incredible — tense, creepy, and very classic RE. The introduction of Leon (my favorite character in the series) immediately hooked me.

Then the Road Hill section starts and for me the game was pure magic. The first 5–6 hours were exactly what I want from Resident Evil. The premise was great and I loved the survival aspect — limited ammo, limited saves, carefully planning every move. I was literally stopping in every room, looking at the details, thinking about my next route and resource management. That feeling is peak old-school RE for me. It reminded me of exploring the Spencer Mansion or the RPD back in the day.

I also enjoyed the early Leon action segment. I’m a huge fan of RE4 Remake, so those parts worked for me and the combat encounters were fun.

Unfortunately, after escaping Road Hill the game started to lose its magic for me which is crazy because I was extremely excited about returning to Raccoon City. Since I was a kid I’ve always been fascinated by that setting. I always wanted to see more stories about the outbreak. To me it's one of the best fictional locations in gaming.

But the return here just didn’t work for me. The city felt weirdly generic. It could be just any other city in the world. It lacked the identity and atmosphere I expected. Even visually something felt a bit off to me — maybe the ray tracing or lighting, I’m not sure, but it didn’t look as sharp as earlier

I also liked the first antagonist Gideon , but the bike/street racing segment with Leon completely lost me. It felt really out of place for a character that was built up pretty well.

The RPD section also felt more like fan service than something that actually served the story. The one moment that really worked for me there was hearing the old RE2 score again — that was pure magic. Some of Leon’s dialogue was great too.

For context I haven’t finished the game yet. I’m currently at the final area in the Ark after the lickers. This part is fine — not bad, not amazing.

Overall I do like the game, but I didn’t love the more action-heavy Leon parts. Not because of gameplay, but because of the tone and premise. The story started feeling a bit too over-the-top and weird, almost like the plot was written mainly just to justify returning to Raccoon City and the RPD.

In older RE games the story felt simpler and honestly that worked better for me.

If I could ask Capcom for one thing, it would be a prequel set during the Raccoon City outbreak. Give us a new character and a different perspective. Imagine experiencing the outbreak in the city maybe crossing paths with some of the main characters.

That would be amazing.

TL;DR:

The Road Hill section was incredible and felt like peak old-school Resident Evil for me. After that the game lost some of its identity. The return to Raccoon City wasn’t as magical as I hoped and the story got a bit too over-the-top just to justify going back there. Still a very good RE game overall and, for me personally, miles better than Resident Evil Village.
