How acceptable is getting a dog in Malaysia?

I really want to get a dog. I need it mentally and been dreaming of this since I was a teenager.

1. How acceptable is this generally in the society? Will I face trouble finding a house to rent that accepts pets? Also I am afraid if the whole building was "pet friendly" it would be dirty or other people might have animals like snakes or spiders? ( I completely understand everybody have the right to do whatever they want with their space but I have a phobia of some kind of animals so I just to know more about these stuff)

2. Is it expensive? What do legalities do I need? Are vaccines and food expensive?

And regarding traveling. I am not Malaysian, if I want to travel Will my dog need a visa to come with me?
