[MA] Baby on the way, month-to-month, lead inspection?
My spouse and I just got accepted into an apartment we really love. Unfortunately, it is a month-to-month lease. We had been hoping for a year because we have our first child due in September, but the housing market is horrible and we were very lucky to find something we could afford at all so we are taking the risk. We went through a broker and did not tell them that I'm pregnant. We plan to let the landlord know a few months before the baby is born. We are both anxious about possibly getting non-renewed because of the child. Also, I don't think the property has had a lead inspection (I checked the state database). It was built in 1965. My understanding is that in MA they have to do lead inspection/abatement if there's a child in the house, but I'm nervous that this will lead to housing discrimination (since it's quite expensive) especially since we will have a month to month. How would you handle this? We don't really have other good housing options at the moment. I'm hoping to minimize the chance that our lease is not renewed especially right after our baby is born.
