Rebel Veterans Uses

Tactics Discussion

Hi all,

I'm really looking forward to the Echo Base Defenders box coming out as I really love the new Rebel Veterans sculpts. However, as a still fairly-inexperienced player, they seem pretty lacklustre on the tabletop. They're the most expensive Rebel Corps unit, but they're also the slowest, they're not very tough, they're not particularly deadly, and their only heavy weapon option seems... fine?

I know that they get some synergy with the big turrets and the Medium Blaster, but I've tried using the 1.4 FD Cannon before and the immobility really hampered objective control. The Medium Blaster seems interesting (it's actually as tough as the base Veteran Squad but with higher courage) but having to get the Veterans to access it in the first place feels more like a tax than an advantage.

I feel like I'll probably just use the Veteran models as Rebel Troopers most of the time, but is there something I'm missing with them that makes them worth taking with the Veteran unit card?
