Thyroid Removal for Hashimotos non toxic goiter
I’m still stuck on if it’s a bad idea to remove my thyroid.
The main thing is that it’s a large goiter-left lobe is somewhere around 7.8cm x2.3 x2 and right lobe is somewhere around 8.5cm x2.7 x2.6. I have compressive symptoms, it feels like someone has a hand pressing on my neck at all times and also some difficulty swallowing (sometimes have to swallow two or three times to get my bite of food to go down) and difficulty breathing if laying flat on my back.
I do not currently take synthroid- my levels have always been good (TSH 1.64 and T4 1.05 at last appt in December) except mildly elevated antibodies. (39 and 15 but haven’t been tested in 2+years)
I have a few nodules all 1cm or less, so no concern for malignancy.
So I am struggling with the decision for removal because although I have hashimotos and my endocrinologist recommends removal due to its size, I’m worried about having it removed and causing issues for myself. I want to be able to have more kids in the future and I’m worried about getting it out and screwing up my fertility but I would love to not feel like I’m being choked all the time…
I need help deciding what to do.
