Misdiagnosed T2

Type 1.5/LADA

Since you dont know what you dont know and kind of a PSA. Not me but my husband. My husband was diagnosed with T2 7 years ago by his PCP. He tried a couple common treatments including injectables to try to get his numbers under control. He tried diet (including Keto and Carnivore) and exercise to no avail. His numbers stayed consistently high above 250 on a regular basis. His PCP kept prescribing him more or different drugs to try. He lost the weight youd think his number would show improvement, nope. What we didnt know was there was a specialist that handles this kind of disorder, an endocrinologist. Thats where Im disappointed in his PCP. His oncologist recommended one to him because he couldn't get a life saving scan because his readings were too high. Well guess what, all it took was one stupid test (the GAD 65 test) to immediately tell him he was LADA. 7 years wasted with the frustration, money, and time. One stupid test his PCP should have done years ago when he realized his numbers werent getting under control. He just started insulin and his numbers are in the "normal" range more than not. He is still figuring out his insulin needs but this is the best his levels have been. I tell this story for any lurkers or posters that were diagnosed T2 that arent having success or little success that are looking for answers. LADA is often misdiagnosed as T2. An endocrinologist is the person you want to work with. And get that stupid GAD 65 blood test. It should be mandatory of you've had multiple high A1Cs; if anything just to rule it out.
