Why are we basically forced into using characters the way others want? (Re-write)

I've played Forsaken a few times before, and the last time, which was months ago, was genuinely the thing that turned me off from the game as a whole. There were people calling me useless and telling me to actually help (I was doing generators,) and someone even threatened to assault me over being called out for being toxic. I like using Two-Time, he's basically a glorified survivor for me, and I shouldn't be forced into using them the way other people want me to. Nobody should be forced to use a character the way others want. If someone using a character differently makes you that upset, respectfully, it may be time to just turn off whatever device you're using and do something productive.
