Hey everyone, I’m trying to understand how this interaction is supposed to work.

Here’s the scenario:

I have a Pouty Poro in play that has Deflect.

On my opponent’s turn, they want to play Stupify, but their intention is basically just to draw the card.

The first line of the card says:

“Give a unit -1 ⚔ this turn, to a minimum of 1 ⚔. Draw 1.”

So my question is about the targeting and Deflect interaction.

Since the effect starts with “Give a unit -1 ⚔ this turn”, does my opponent have to choose a unit as the target when they play the spell?

If the only available unit is my Pouty Poro with Deflect, are they forced to target it?

And if they do target it, does that mean they must pay the Deflect cost in order for the spell to resolve?

Or can they choose not to pay the Deflect cost and still resolve the second part of the card (drawing 1)?

Basically I’m trying to clarify which of these is correct:

1. They must target my Poro, and if they don’t pay Deflect the spell doesn’t resolve.

2. They can choose not to pay Deflect but still draw the card.

3. They can play Stupify without actually targeting anything and just draw.

Would appreciate clarification if anyone knows the correct ruling. Thanks!
