What armour would be best to use in my feral ghoul auto axe build?

I currently use vulcan pa with mutants/int/thru hikers for the set benefits + strength bonus + high resistances + cool looks.

I have a set of excavator Troubleshooters/Str/Thru Hikers/Bruisers. Obviously dps is much higher, but Im thinking just setting up another set of vulcans with the same mods because ehhh why not.

Is there a non power armour that will get me similar tankiness and strength bonus?

Or just tell me your favourite armour if you run a ghoule melee build :)
