La Spezia vs Cinque Terre towns

I’m traveling to the C.T. area this summer.

Any thoughts on staying in La Spezia or is it better to stay in one of the towns? If you’re staying in one of them, which one would you suggest? (3 people. 2 in their 50’s, 1 in their 20’s)
