AI moves too fast, impossible to catch that train anymore. It is not like it used to be, you miss the train but in a few years of focused effort you can catch up. Now it goes too fast, access to needed talent is not possible for Amazon. Let's face it , we do not have enough top talent in house, and the top talent we do have is eager to leave. Let's focus on our strengths, e-commerce, cloud automation. We never had a win in AI, think of Alexa, a gigantic invest, a massive failure spanning many years. The current AI experts we have are those who built Alexa. Not the right place to invest
