Produced by the Philippine Opera Company, Master Class is a Tony Award–winning play by Terrence McNally that premiered in 1995. It imagines a series of public voice lessons given by legendary soprano Maria Callas at Juilliard in the early 1970s.

Not an opera, but a gripping theatrical drama with music, the play blends spoken dialogue and live operatic excerpts. It explores themes of artistic excellence, discipline and sacrifice, the cost of greatness, and love and heartbreak — particularly her relationship with Aristotle Onassis.

Throughout the play, Callas works with three young opera students, each representing different strengths and vulnerabilities — raw talent, technical precision, ambition, insecurity — and through them, we glimpse the triumphs and wounds of La Divina herself.

Featuring the First Lady of Philippine Musical Theaer Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo as Maria Callas, with Alexandra Bernas, Angeli Benipayo and Arman Ferrer as Callas' students. Directed by Jaime del Mundo.
