Civic Conversation

Local Politics

Thank you to our Quincy City Councilors. You ran and won because you listened to your neighbors and heard clearly that residents want a city that is transparent, accountable, and fiscally responsible.

From the start, the new City Council agenda has focused on issues that matter to residents: public forums, the raises, fiscal safeguards, access to information, and property tax exemptions.

Unfortunately, a group on social media has begun circulating a steady stream of personal attacks along with misinformation; they are unhappy that you won. These kinds of attacks don’t just distort public discussion — they hurt real people and their families.

Healthy disagreement is part of democracy, and there will certainly be differences of opinion, especially when addressing long-standing practices within an entrenched administration. But those disagreements should be grounded in facts and good faith — not in personal attacks or distorted claims.

Quincy deserves a civic conversation based on truth, respect, and accountability.
