Pre-dyed or DIY?

Hi everyone,

As context, I have not done anything yet and feel kind of overwhelmed with all of the options. So Im waiting on my tools to arrive and have been browsing different leathers.

I’ve been thinking about the pros and cons of dyeing leather myself versus buying pre-dyed leather.

How do people here feel about the process of dyeing leather? Do you find that dyeing it yourself adds something to the craft or the final result? Or is it often just easier or more practical to buy pre-dyed leather?

I’m also curious about edge finishing. Do you have any tips or techniques you’d recommend for clean edges?

Right now I’m thinking I might just dye the edges black most of the time. What products or methods do you find work best for edge dyeing or finishing?
