Should I Find Another Surgeon?
Going in to have my right eye done next week. 26 year history of Iritis flares, HLA-B27 positive. Appx 3 flares per eye over those 26 years. Rheumatologist does not prescribe anything, presumably since flares are intermittent. Ophthalmologist has said nothing about special care for iritis, not even pred drops leading up to surgery. I am supposed to take all drops post-surgery, including pred, nsaid, antibiotic. Nothing prior to surgery.
I also had 2 small retinal tears about 15 years ago in the right eye that were treated at their office and have had no issues since.
Ophthalmologist saw me over a month ago and I had my measurements taken by a tech last week. There was very little discussion about lens options, and what discussion did occur was initiated by me. I had to do my own research. I am not sure what I was expecting but it seems like there would have been a more robust plan of care, where my eyes would have been examined again closer to surgery and that lens options would have been much more about pros/cons, what might be best for those prone to iritis, history of retinal tears, etc.
Does it sound like they are being thorough enough? Are my expectations for this lead-up to surgery off the mark? I have read other accounts of patient experiences and it sounds like many have gotten much more care/planning leading up to surgery.
Any and all input is greatly appreciated and I thank you.
