Shorten nails without loosing the design

I’ve been using press-ons and it’s been a savior for my oily nails! However, I like my nails a bit on the shorter side (i have a small nail bed!) and usually the nails I love have a cuter design on the tip (like french nails) which makes it harder to adjust

Does anyone have tips on how to shorten the nails without loosing the design? Is it safe to try at style them from the bottom? thanks in advance!
