Extreme negativity and toxic behavior and sharing my ways of "handling" it

Discussion

Hey there! I'm a player and a killer main since... 2017 or 2018? Tbh not sure.

Negativity and toxicness were always a dark part of DbD—HELL, it was a part of every gaming community.

But i recently see more and more posts about toxicness, bad endgame chats, survivor sided here—killer sided there, "bad taste" in voting in the grimoire and and and.

What happend? Was it always so extreme and i just didnt noticed it? It's sad to the community at this level of negativity.

So i wanted to share some ways how i handel this in game to get less negative and/or more positive.

1.The end game chat.

Its pretty simple: Don't read it. I'm only reading the end game chat when im 100% sure it will be a nice chat like after friendly games but after toxic, sweaty or even normal, casual games, i'm not reading it. That's how i avoid the insults and even god damn death threats (What the hell is going on with some people).

  1. Playing Survivor.

Most of us know that DbD is NOT beginner friendly. Especially for survivors. Learning how to loop properly, how to counter 30+ different killers, how to work in a team with randoms and more. To win a game EVERY player has to work for it. If only 1 survivor isn't able to do that for any reason, your winning chances drop drasticly. The best way is to play in a SwF of course. That's how you mostly will be able to win because DbD is not designed for voice chat with all the advantages it gives. And winning gives obviously much positivity for you. Solo que on the other hand can be good or bad. If killers tunnel (Best killer strategy mostly) at the very beginning against solo que and you and/or your teammates have nothing against that like specific perks, you'll mostly not be able to counter it properly. Of course you can always bring an anti-tunnel build but that could be very boring for some players and even completly useless sometimes when the killer decides to not tunnel. So tbh there is not much you can do in solo que when the killer decides to sweat (Nothing wrong about that) or you have teammates who aren't doing their part properly for whatever reason. When you didn't play toxic but the killer still plays toxic like hitting on hook or walks up and down while you're on the ground and and and, i'm just trying to ignore it and see the killer as a little child who didn't got their candy and is now screaming and crying. Would i give a shit about it? Nope. Same goes to toxic survivors.

  1. Playing killer

The more you play as killer or even play with only one or a few killer—the higher your mmr rises up. Which means that the chance of facing SwF's rises to. As i said before—SwF's mostly have voice chat which gives them high advantages like countering stealth killers/builds, revealing where traps are placed, revealing in which direction Artist, Huntress tries to aim and snipe, revealing in which direction Dredge, Nightmare tries to teleport and much much more. Sure, not every SwF is perfect coordinated but you don't need to be perfect coordinated to stomp most killers with these advantages you have. It can be very frustating so found a way as killer how i handel this. It's very specific tbh honest. I don't go for kills, i go for hooks. Like im chasing the surv i see without thinking on who's death hook or anything. I delevoped a mindset that gives me a win feeling when i got about 7 or more hooks even if everyone excaped. This gives me nice advantages for myself like countering meta builds with DS or OtR which counter tunneling and most of us know that tunneling is sometimes necessary to get kills and the mostly the best strategy for killers. But if i don't go for kills i don't need to tunnel so they don't get to use these perks. Another advantage is that the pressure you have feels much more lighter. The last advantage you get is the mmr you have is dropping. With focusing on hooks and not kills you'll mostly have 1-2 or even more escape every round on high mmr which drops the mmr so the chance of facing SwF's drops to. I just love that.

Last thing i do when it comes to toxic behavior is to try to ignore it and play normally and not toxic to. The goal of toxic players is mostly to get attention from the killler/survivor. Like an answer that it worked on you and you kinda answer it with "yes" when you begin to play toxic to. So you mostly do exactly that what they want. So ignoring it and continue to play normal is probably the best way to handel these. As for cheaters, i just do nothing. If i see someone cheat i just stand still and watch videos until the round is over. If everyone does that—cheaters will eventually get bored because they got no attention/answer from you. Almost the same like toxic players.

I know this was pretty long now but i hope this helps some of you dropping the negativity.

Have nice day in the fog!
