weird character

okay so my fiancé and i bring up this kind of character in every show we watch together. it's like the same breed as Eli Scruggs where they introduce him randomly and act like he is a beloved figure of the community like everyone is like "oh yes eli scruggs he fixed my toilet and helped me through my divorce!!" even though they didn't even mention of a handyman they call regularly before? i just find this kind of thing odd where they force this person into the show for the sake of one storyline that i see in many other shows and we just say omg it's an eli scruggs moment when it breaks the immersion lol. do any of you agree with this take bc seriously why did they need to bring eli scruggs for one episode. lmk if im misremembering about him but i swear they made him sound like so impactful to wisteria lane for 1 episode?
