Why is my 2002 Toyota Hilux stuck at 2000 RPM?

Hey

I have a manual 2002 3.0L D-4D Toyota Hilux SR5. I drove it on a long trip this weekend and noticed some strange behavior.

On higher gears (3rd and 4th), the engine would not go much past ~2000 RPM even when I pressed the throttle more. In lower gears it could go a bit higher, but still not very much.

The throttle response also feels very delayed. Another odd thing is that I can’t seem to rev-match anymore — heel-toe doesn’t work because the engine barely revs when the clutch is pressed, even if I give it a lot of throttle.

Has anyone experienced something similar or know what could cause this?
