Advice for some knee issues (equipment related)

Upfront, would be great if there is an ortho on here that also cycles that could chime in—not really looking for medical advice per se, but rather equipment choice advice. Sorry for this being long, but could really use some advice.

Background: 20 years military, recently retired and have some issues with my right knee. Full thickness Chondromalacia patella, and a super-lax ACL (basically quasi-ruptured). However…I’ve done 3 marathons and an Ultra on it because, well, fairly high tolerance of pain, and admittedly somewhat stubborn.

Used to cycle quite a bit (have A 2012 SuperSix) but took to running trails here when I moved as the drivers here are sketchy as hell. I am trying to get back into it an have been using my Kickr Core trainer more and more so I can cycle in the morning and jog in the afternoon. Problem remains my damn knee sometimes.

I’m starting to wonder if my pedal choice is an issue. I’m using Time pedals with iclic cleats and I believe they have roughly 5 degrees of float. Would a Pedal choice that has more float help me perhaps? Something like a speed play pedal? Since my knee has a habit of tracking oddly, I think being “Locked in” to to a fixed lateral angle is not doing me any favors.
