Seems easy?! Going light orange ginger to light brown/red?

This seems easy! So my hair was dyed dark 5N brown forever. I used color remove and lifted everything to like an 8 light/medium ginger with my natural medium mousy roots. So I’m going for a light brown/w some red tones. I put 7WG dye on for 10 mins and my hair is BLACK. I see now that it’s so dark because my hair is very fine and porous. I’m going to use color remover again and strip the dye. From what I see, toner is probably a better option to gently blend the roots to hair color. I liked my hair before but the roots were too brow and obvious. Once I remove the dye again, what toner should I use??
