How small locker stations are becoming a new kind of local infrastructure
In many tourist cities there is a simple problem that appears every day.
Travelers arrive before check in.
They check out hours before their flight.
They go to the beach but do not want to leave belongings unattended.
Because of this, self service locker stations are quietly appearing in places like beaches, tourist streets, ferry ports, and busy city areas.
The idea is simple.
People store their belongings for a few hours while they explore.
At Kutu, we have been building and deploying these kinds of locker stations in different tourist locations, and it has been fascinating to see where they work best and how people actually use them.
One thing becomes clear very quickly.
The technology is rarely the hard part.
What really determines success is location and user flow. Lockers placed directly where people experience the problem tend to work far better than lockers placed simply where space is available.
It is interesting to see this slowly becoming a new type of local infrastructure operated by people in different cities.
Where have you seen lockers used while traveling?
