I laughed but it didn’t leave a lasting impression. It’s like because it was a Jane Austen period drama they felt they had to go heavy on the comical part and that just makes it feel dismissive. I found it funny at times and I get that she explained it to her fiancé but I still feel like they missed the mark.

I think there's a way to inform people about what women go through without making men look completely clueless. You lose your target audience when you depict them as dummies. It’s not that they’re dumb or ignorant it’s just how the world has been. We’re trying to change how people think and making it a total joke doesn't help.

We’ve been told since childhood to keep this a dirty shameful secret from men even when we're missing school and life events. We need to stop normalizing the pain and the psychology of it all like it's just something we have to accept. This is not for the weak. It’s something women do every month and we aren't ashamed of it anymore.

Awareness starts in the home: As a mom, my 18 year old son is very aware of what women go through. I wanted him to enter whatever relationship he chooses with an understanding of it and not be grossed out or embarrassed to pick up pads or tampons at the store. It’s just something you do. I wish they added more depth instead of making the whole thing such a joke.
