Claude is making me question whether web designers will exist in 5 years?

Question

I’ve been using Claude a lot lately for web development work. Not just for writing code but for actual design decisions too. Layouts, colors, UX ideas, the whole thing.

And honestly it’s kind of weird how good it is.

I’m not a professional web designer. But with Claude helping I’m putting together stuff that looks like it came from someone who actually does this for a living. I’m not saying that to brag. It’s just the reality of what’s happening.

So it keeps making me wonder what this means for web designers. If someone like me can get something decent together in a couple hours that used to take a designer days or a week, what does that change?

The only thing I keep coming back to is that the designers who understand how to guide tools like this are probably going to be more valuable than ever. The ones who are mostly just executing instructions without much thinking behind it might be in trouble and maybe don’t realize it yet.

It doesn’t really feel like AI is killing web design. It feels more like the field is splitting into two groups. People who think through the problems and people who mostly execute tasks.

I’m curious if any actual designers are feeling this yet.
