Theory: The Didact and Humans are the same race.
We all know the "Human-Forerunner" debate. In Halo 3, Guilty Spark tells Chief "You are Forerunner," implying we are the descendants of those who fired the rings. In Halo 4, the Didact appears and treats humans as a separate, inferior species. Most see this as a total retcon, but I have a theory that bridges the two:
What if Humans and the Didact are the same species, but at different stages of a "Tiered Evolution"?
My theory is that the "extinction event" at the end of the Forerunner-Flood war wasn't meant to have survivors, but it was flawed. Here are the core points:
- The Biological Gap: Instead of being different species, the Didact is simply a human who is millions of years ahead in biological and technological augmentation. Think of him as "Human 2.0" while we are the "rebooted" version.
- The Rebel Theory: The reason humans exist at all is that a small faction of Forerunners may have sabotaged the Halo array or the "restart" process to spare a segment of their race. They chose to revert to a primitive state to survive.
- The Didact’s Motivation: This explains why the Didact loathes us so much. He doesn't just hate a rival alien species; he hates us because we are a living reminder of his race's "failure." To him, humanity is a devolved, "glitched" version of his own people that was never supposed to exist after the rings fired.
In this light, the Didact isn't an alien—he’s an ancestor who refuses to acknowledge his "restarted" descendants because we represent the end of his Golden Age.
