Painful feet

44M, around 6'4" and 180lbs. Healthy but not fit at the moment. I've been WFH for the past year...important context because I haven't been walking as much (although I still go out at least a couple of time every day). I probably walk about 2000 steps on average and occasionally over 10k. My feet have always been in decent health other than the occasional bought of athlete's foot.

Recently (about two months ago), I woke up with what I thought were bruised heels. They felt like they would if you walked a lot or ran in poorly fitted shoes and the next day your feet were sore or something. I didn't do any jumping or long walking or anything else that I can think of. This feeling hasn't left since.

It's sometimes worse in the morning but depends what I do during the day. I switched footwear and recently some softer soled shoes helped a bit but the feet still feel extremely sensitive. There's no visible bruising or issues that I can see. My left foot is "almost fine" but my right foot is constant and so much that I've almost cried a few times when it cramps up. Touching the foot is fine and it doesn't seem sensitive to touch or much pressure from my hand.

I also find it puts me in a bad mood because the pain is always there. Lately the front pad of my right foot has developed pain for overcompensating the need for pressure on the back. Driving a car is painful because of where the pressure of the foot on the pedal is. The main position that is comfortable is laying down.

My diet is pretty balanced. Maybe more sugar lately than I should be having but otherwise lots of fruit, vegetables, water and proteins. Does anyone have any ideas of what it could be? Should I try to get an X-ray or MRI?
