my (21F) boyfriend (33M) asked to go through my phone, I said no
my (21f) boyfriend (33M) recently asked to go through my phone after i displayed what he calls “suspicious” behavior. This suspicious behavior is essentially just me going to a friends house once a week to hang out with her and her boyfriend, and sometimes some other coworkers/friends.
He has my location, I’m always open about where I’m at and who I’m with, and I text him consistently along with sending photos when I’m out.
I guess his final straw for wanting to go through my phone was the fact I have some bruises on my thigh and butt. He said they looked like a “trail” of fingerprints. I don’t agree. I get bruises literally all the time just from existing, commonly on my thighs and butt. He’s never brought them up before but suddenly he’s suspicious.
He asked to go through my phone when I came home after the gym the other day. Keep in mind this gym is apart of our amenities in our apartment and I always invite him to come with (he never does), so it’s not like I’m on the other side of town fucking some trainer.
He said that I’d been acting suspicious by spending more time with friends/alone and that my sudden change in habits was off. The habits being me going to the gym and eating healthier, which were both part of my New Year’s resolutions. He also said that the bruises were suspicious and looked like fingerprints. I have one huge bruise on my thigh and two little ones next to it, and two small bruises right next to each other on my left ass cheek. They don’t even remotely look like handprints or anything caused by sex.
When he asked, I’ll be honest, I straight up laughed and said no. When we first moved in together I found some pretty damning evidence that he had cheated or at least was keeping secrets from me and even then I never went through his phone.
I’ve had an ex go through my phone, call me ugly, accuse me of cheating (I slept with another man before we were even talking), and made fun of my sick mother. So, I’m very against going through phones. Especially since i believe that even if you’re partner is completely loyal, you’ll still find something that will make you sick. It just seems pointless to me at that point.
I tried to explain my reasoning but it only made him believe I was cheating more.
I have nothing to hide on my phone. I’m not seeing anyone, I’m not being sneaky, but I feel like it’s a fair boundary to have. I don’t go through his, why the hell would I let him go through mine?
Am I being unreasonable? I’m struggling to even take this situation seriously because I know for a fact I’m not cheating and he seems so adamant that I am. All while having potentially cheated on me in the past.
I apologize if this post is all over the place, I’m pissed and frazzled. Thank you.
TLDR: boyfriend wants to go through my phone because I’ve been hanging out with friends once a week and going to the gym.
