Hi everyone. My name is Cam - 9 years ago I got my first camera, a lumix g7, and since then I’ve fallen deeply in love with the m43 platform.

After being a fly on the wall in this sub for a few months, I thought it was a good time to share some of my favourite photos from Japan. It’s actually my first ever post on reddit - so here goes.

I went over with my trusty Olympus Ep-5 + VF4 with my 20mm 1.7 II and 14mm 2.5. For the first week or so, I shot mainly in the evening so needing that 1.7, I didn’t take my 14 out once - or for the whole trip for that matter.

My shooting style is rather spontaneous. very much walk around and shoot whatever I see (mainly people). if there’s a cool spot I’ll stick around, hunt for good lighting + compositions + wait for some people to enter my frame, then keep moving.

About half way through my trip I found the 20mm to lack the reach I was after. So after deep diving I had my heart set on the Olympus 45 1.8, but after finding out about the lumix 42.5 1.7 (metal build and closer minimum focusing distance) and finding one new in box for $260 aud ($182 usd) I was sold.

And so it began. Olympus ep-5 + panasonic 42.5mm 1.7 on the streets of Tokyo. When I say I got the most enjoyment out of any setup I’ve ever used in my life, I truly mean it. That lens is a gem. And no I haven’t used a 20mp m43 before but the 16mp I get from my ep5 has always satisfied my pixel peeping urges.

I shot entirely in single point AF-S in aperture priority with f-stop assigned to front dial and exposure comp to the rear.

These photos were taken across 2 days in Tokyo. Either with the 20 or 42.5. I edited these in Snapseed on the plane trip home. I hope you enjoy.
