Tips for having your first home? (For a couple)
So for a little context. Me (F21) and my boyfriend (M20) have been on and off long distance for about 2.5 year by this point. He lived with me and my mum for a year after running away from his mother (abusive), had to move away to his dads for financial reasons since jobs in my area suck, for about 11 months, came back December 2025 but again moved away recently because of some family problems and some manipulation from their side.
for simplicity sake, I will summarise as them disliking me for heavily opinionated reasons and personally having judgements of me which aren’t necessarily accurate.
He said after this he’s done being impressionable and he’s staying there to get money and we’re going to get our own space on our own in his town so only one of us has to find a job which will be easy there. I’ve got my job and he’s still looking and we have a few properties for rent we’ve got an eye on and saving starts now. We’re planning to aim for saving £1,500 (give or take) for deposit and then £1-£2k in savings total between us both for necessities and to get us through the first month while I look for work in the area.
Other who have moved in with their partners, is there anything we should keep in mind? It’s both of our first times moving out so any help or advice will be appreciated! Long distance couples or not! We’re both pretty young so this is very new for us
