I was a crappy south american cook two years ago, If I can do it, so can you.
Hello everyone, this is my story. I’m not some grand sales guru, and I’m sure many people here have closed bigger deals, have better education, or stronger training. This is just my story for anyone starting out in sales with no clear path, like I once was.
I’m a 30-year-old cook from a South American country. I grew up in what used to be a solid middle-class family until my dad left. When that happened, I had to step up and help support my family. I dropped out of law school and started working 12-hour days just to keep things going.
One day, after posting on Reddit about a failed job interview, a random redditor reached out and asked if I’d be interested in working for his company in a physical products industry. I said yes without really knowing what I was getting into. (I'm not saying which industry out of privacy)
I started as an assistant and basically had to learn everything on my own. My territory ended up being the United States, and after some time I was promoted into a junior role with a $400 base salary. I had to use my own phone from 2017, my own desktop computer from 2010, and an old camera from 2012 that made everything look grainy. At the time, I didn’t even know what things like MRR or ARR meant (I still don't)
I was just trying to sell and figure things out as I went.
Eventually I was promoted into a hybrid purchasing and sales role and even started doing my own marketing on Linkedin, getting inbound requests from other people in the same industry.
After about a year, something unexpected happened. I closed the largest deal in the history of that organization, with a 50% profit margin. I sourced the opportunity myself through LinkedIn, with some help from the purchasing team.
Here’s proof of the deal: https://imgur.com/a/2kt7Ryu
That commission changed my life. With it, I was able to pay for my European citizenship process, buy a proper computer, and finally move out of my house in a rundown area with my current girlfriend.
I left that organization a few months ago, but the owner gave me a chance when no one else did, and I’ll always respect that. If you’re just starting out in sales and feel lost, feel free to send me a message.
I genuinely enjoy helping people who are in the same position I once was. Whether it’s crafting sequences, writing emails, doing lead generation, or cold calling, I’m happy to help however I can (Seriously guys, I love learning about new industries).
On another note, I’ll be relocating to Europe in a few months. If you’re part of a small, resource-constrained organization and need someone scrappy who can figure things out, feel free to send me a DM.
If a 30-year-old cook from a random South American country can do it, so can you.
