Should I just go for my states private program?
Hello,
I’m in my second year attempting to get into my states community college and wasn’t able to get in. It is insanely competitive. I have a 3.9 GPA in my pre req courses. On a whim I applied to a local private hospitals college program and was accepted. It is accredited/ not for profit, and I will be eligible to sit for the exam in 2028, with classes starting this fall. About 28 of the 80 credits needed to graduate have transferred. The issue is, I have to work while attending school. I currently work as a sleep tech, and I’m on the fence. I have a previous bachelors in an unrelated field so my financial aid is minimal. I’m single, no kids and have plenty of free time I guess.I work Sunday, Monday, Tuesday night 12 hour shifts. How feasible is the program while working? I would imagine I would have to drastically cut back on work my 2nd year for clinical. So private loans may have to be an option.
Tuition is $625 a credit hour and I would prefer not to take out a TON of private loans if I don’t have too. I’m sort of on the fence. I’ve heard very good things about the program at this school and the field in general. I’ve worked in healthcare my whole life and have always appreciated medical imaging, I’m just a bit of a worry wart I guess. Any tips advise or feedback? To those of you who are in the field I understand the field is cyclical and I know it’s impossible to see into the future but do you think there will be work available? I’m a night guy, and I wonder how prevalent those jobs are in the field as well.
