Contested Property (Dog)
Location: Michigan
My divorce attorney is horrible and doesn’t read my emails or answer my questions so here I am.
I filed for divorce in December with the only contested property being our dog. Once my husband heard about the filing, he took our dog, fled to Oregon, and blocked me from any possible communication. Is this not a problem?
I have the following evidence saying I am at least a partial owner:
-
Letter from breeder stating it was a joint purchase
-
Dog license in my name only
-
Vet records with mostly my name (some his)
-
Photos of me with the dog from day or purchase onward
-
Dog training classes with me as only owner listed
Is it not at least a slight problem that he took her within hours of being notified of divorce? I wasn’t expecting him to do that so I didn’t get any temporary orders, but I don’t think he can just take the only contested property in the divorce and hide it from me.
