Messy baby clothes (food/oil)

Hello, Dad of a 9 month old here. Laundry has always been one of my household tasks, and things were totally ok while my son was just breastfeeding. He now eats 3 solid meals a day. Despite using huge bibs or smocks, he makes a giant mess every time. We feed him baby oatmeal in the morning but lunch or dinner are whatever we are having (often lentils, curries, other saucey and spiced dishes).

I was his clothes once a week. All Free and Clear detergent, cold water. Top load washer. No softener or dryer sheets. His clothes are nearly all 100% cotton. They are coming out full of grease stains- way more than I have the patience to deal with.

Since he's not going to be learning table manners anytime soon, are there some easy, tired-parent-friendly steps I could take to fix this? Happy to buy new products but we cannot do anything with fragrance.

Thank you!
