Number leaked after GST registration

Hello guys!

I recently applied for a GSTIN and after getting it, I received a call from Yes Bank on my business phone number pitching their current account.

I had not used that number anywhere else, it's a new number.

The conversation went like this:

"How did you get my number? I never gave it to Yes Bank" "We have data sir" "Delete my number and never call me again"

• They didn't call again.

I think the government's GST portal regularly leaks data, either intentionally or unintentionally, to people who maintain records.

I was just astounded at how speedily it got leaked. This call came two days after I got my GSTIN. I am now wondering how many shady Excel sheets have my details on them by now.

Stay safe guys, it seems like even the government cannot protect our details.

This is not a huge breach of privacy, btw, I know that there is a difference between "personal" and "private."
