AITAH for refusing to dive into a deep river to retrieve a soda can I accidentally dropped?
I went innertubing on a river with a group of friends this past summer, and it was recently brought up again so I thought I'd check in on this here
At one point of the river float, a friend asked if I could toss them a soda. I was in charge of drinks/snacks, so I threw (attempted to) a can to them, but I completely botched the throw and it landed in the water instead. The can sank and the water was deep enough you can't stand in it, let alone see the can.
As soon as it happened, everyone started telling me I needed to jump in and get it because I had just littered. And yeah, while i agree I screwed up the throw and yeah, it is littering, I couldn’t retrieve it. I mean, god damn, for so many reasons, the least of which is I couldn't even see it and we were still moving.
They got pretty annoyed with me and said it was irresponsible to just leave trash in the river. I got annoyed back and it was a bit of a tiff that soured the rest of the float.
Idk if we'll float the river as the same group this year (EVER AGAIN, haha?), but maybe this thread can help determine that. We are all still friends and get along well, but this is definitely an argument none of us have budged on.
So AITA for refusing to dive into a deep river to retrieve a soda can I accidentally dropped?
