Would you consider The Beatles a rock band or a pop band?

I’ve been thinking about this lately. Early in their career, The Beatles clearly played a lot of rock and roll influenced by artists like Elvis and Chuck Berry. But as their music evolved, it also became extremely melodic and accessible, which is often associated with pop.

Albums like Rubber Soul, Revolver, and Sgt. Pepper seem to blur the line between rock and pop even more.

So I’m curious: if you had to classify them, would you say The Beatles were mainly a rock band or a pop band? Or do you think that distinction doesn’t really apply to them?
