Cat Safe Black Thumb Plants?

New to Cats/Just Adopted

I recently became a parent to a sweet, very curious little kitty, and with spring around the corner I know I’ll want to liven up my place with plants. I’m not great at gardening, but I want to get better at it. I checked out a few websites (including the ASPCA list of toxic/nontoxic plants- that’ll be like my bible in this scenario) and posts already, but wanted to make my own post with some of my own specifics so I can keep track of answers. I also tend to overthink everything, so apologies.

My apartment only has north facing windows, and a lot of the “easy care” safe plants love sun. Are there any that are fine with indirect light? Am I going to kill a succulent because it doesn’t get enough light? What about cat grass? I thought about strawberries too, because if he gets ahold of a berry he’ll be okay (and might enjoy it). I don’t do a lot of cooking, but an herb garden could be fun too, I think.

I’m not so dedicated that I want to get a grow light- I’ll settle for fake plants, non-safe shade plants on the porch (where he wont be), and an occasional bouquet for color if thats the case. Thanks so much!!

If there’s a better subreddit for this, let me know. I’m new to reddit as well 😭
